Honor On My Sleeve

Lord, give me a session like my ancestry

Give me grace and dignity

enough for my essence sake to go down in history

Please, I do not desire what has been done before

not another version of the same corridor

A new unbound sense of heavenly ground

That my spirit can mend

That my soul can transcend

That every seed I breathe

will sprout forth and extend

This is my prayer

This is my plea

Hear my pure heart as

I display it with honor on my sleeve

This poem speaks to me. From a place I’ve been. Thank you.
